Comedian and actor Amy Schumer is no longer endorsing gubernational candidate Cynthia Nixon.
“I wanted to vote Nixon, but sadly, I don’t believe she would know what the heck to do,” wrote Schumer in an Instagram post. “She needs to be able to pressure the state legislature in stuff but I don’t believe she has enough connections upstate.”
By having “enough connections upstate,” does she mean the ability to be corrupt? After all, Cuomo seems to get “chummy” with corrupt lobbyists.
It’s not just money coming from big donations to Cuomo, or the fact that small donations are coming from someone “who shares an address with a Cuomo campaign aide.” Cuomo was willing to suspend investigations into the monster Harvey Weinstein, as long as he gets $25,000.
“Andrew isn’t my fav dude But he’s good gov,” wrote Schumer. A good governor who won't “be caught DEAD riding the subway riding the subway with you peasants.”
Cuomo’s staffers tried to get him to ride the public subway system, but there is no way that’s going to happen.
According to Politico:
It's not like his advisers haven't tried to persuade him to give it a try. They've urged Cuomo, who is running for a third term, to ride the subway on more than one occasion, according to two knowledgeable sources. The governor has demurred.
One explanation has it that the image of a “passive straphanger” doesn't align with the governor’s can-do persona. It doesn’t enable him to don a windbreaker or grapple with machinery alongside predictably deferential transit workers.
The reality is, Cuomo isn’t going to willingly choose to hang out with “peasants.”
It is hard to deny that Cynthia Nixon does have “enough connections upstate.”
Especially, when you have the New York State Democratic Committee sending out mailers that implies that Cynthia Nixon is anti-Semitic. Governor Cuomo called it a “mistake,” but his track record of being an asshole is extensive to doubt that. “With anti-Semitism and bigotry on the rise, we can’t take a chance with inexperienced Cynthia Nixon,” read the mailer.
The mailer has caused the New York Times to rescind their endorsement of Cuomo:
Sorry, Mr. Cuomo, but that strains credulity.
Mr. Cuomo dominates the state Democratic Party. It acts ethically or abominably at his direction, or at the very least, with his campaign’s blessing.
The committee no doubt sent this garbage in the cynical hope that it would prove effective with Orthodox Jews, who generally vote as a bloc, making them a sought-after constituency for New York politicians.
Amy Schumer’s choice to endorse Cuomo was her doing her best impression of relative Chuck Schumer, who has also announced his support for Cuomo.
As a Democratic leader, Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer has been a complete and utter disaster. Culminating with allowing slack-jaw McConnell to confirm 15 judicial nominees in the month of August alone. What did Chuck Schumer get in return? Nothing.
This is why activist groups have sent a letter to Chuck Schumer telling him to quit being such a bitch:
No senator who cares about our democracy should let a criminal co-conspirator like Donald Trump put anyone on the Supreme Court, and certainly not a nominee like Brett Kavanaugh. Kavanaugh is an extremist who will help institutionalize Trump's hate for a generation. He will end women's access to abortion, decimate Obamacare, supercharge voter suppression and gut the EPA. He could be Trump's get-out-of-jail free card when it comes to the Mueller investigation.
Your job as Senate Democratic leader is to lead your caucus in complete opposition to Trump's attempted Supreme Court takeover and to defend everyone threatened by a Trump Supreme Court. But unbelievably, nearly two dozen Democrats have still not come out against Kavanaugh, and just last week, you helped Majority Leader Mitch McConnell fast track 15 Trump judicial nominees. That is not the leadership we need.
The only chance to stop Kavanaugh's confirmation is for every single Democrat to hold the line against him – not at the last minute when it's time to vote, but as a united Democratic caucus that proudly stands up for women, Muslims, immigrants, LGBTQ people, people of color, workers, consumers, voting rights, our democracy and our planet.
Don’t hold your breath. For when it comes to doing the right thing, Chuck Schumer does the opposite.
