Beliefs are Racist, Facts are Not

According to a new study (link 1) by the Public Religion Research Institute, 57 percent of white evangelicals said that immigrants represent a threat to America’s customs and values.

It makes sense that a majority of white evangelicals would have this viewpoint. After all, Trump’s evangelical advisor, Robert Jeffress, has said (link 2) that “God is not necessarily an open borders guy.”

“The Bible also says that God is the one who established nations and its borders,” said Jeffress, while appearing on Fox News’ show Fox & Friends. “God is not necessarily an open borders guy, as a lot of people would think that he is.”

Jeffress’ views on immigrants isnot the only one within the evangelical community, but certainly for those who support Trump.

The problem with their beliefs?: They’re fucking wrong.

The NewsHour has listed four myths that are popular amongst Trump and his supporters (link 3), but the facts don’t support.

Myth 1: “Immigrants take more from the government than they contribute.”

Reality: Undocumented immigrants pay roughly $11.6 billion a year in taxes, and although undocumented immigrants may cost state and local governments by sending their kids to public schools, those children more than make up the costs down the road.

Myth 2: “Immigrants take American jobs.”

Reality: Immigrants will take jobs Americans won’t. I live in a rural small town, and it ain’t fucking white people working on farms and in the fields.

Myth 3: The U.S. economy does not need immigrants.

Reality: As baby boomers age, and birth rates go down. You better be bringing in immigrants if you don’t want to see shit show to occur in the future, we need people to come to America. From places let’s say, like Honduras.

Myth 4: “It would be better for the economy of immigrant’s children were not citizens.”

Reality: Trump likes to say the 14th Amendment was “a crazy, lunatic policy.” Before I go further, let’s take a moment and think about what Trump said. The President said that it was “a crazy, lunatic policy” to grant citizenship to African Americans who were physically forced to travel across the Atlantic to be slaves.

It’s Trump’s thinking that is crazy, and that of a lunatic.

Anyways, the reality is if we choose to punish “Dreamers” the economy would lose out on $15 billion dollars.

Beliefs are racist. Facts are not...
