Donald Trump is a threat, not merely to just the future of America, but the future of the human race. Not only does he express all the qualities of a mad man in his rhetoric, but his policies also represent a mad man.
Trump's threat to the human race was pointed out by the philosopher Noam Chomsky, incredibly early in Trump's presidency, but he had good reason to make that assumption then and the last two years of Trump's presidency has proven those assumptions correct.
"Two years ago it was pushed forward to three minutes to midnight," Chomsky told Wallace Shaw of the New York Public Library Podcast about nuclear scientists moving the Doomsday Clock closer to midnight. "A week into Trump's term, it was moved to two-and-a-half minutes to midnight-that's the closest it's been since 1953," observed Chomsky.
"So what are we going to do about it?" Chomsky rhetorically asks Wallace. "Well, what we're doing about it is ignoring it."
As Chomsky had noted, Atomic scientists have not ignored it, and have taken notice to the threat that Trump poses on the human race. Moving the Doomsday Clock forward is an obvious act of noticing by the scientists.
"The United States now has a President who has promised to impede progress," on not only nuclear proliferation, but also on climate change too.
It's interesting to look back at the early days of Trump's presidency, and the fears that Atomic scientists had. They worried about North Korea, Russia China, but also the situation regarding India and Pakistan. But one of their other fears was the future of the Iran nuclear deal, and their fears that Donald Trump would pull the United States out of it.
We know how that went.
Obviously, North Korea is a country that is nearly impossible to trust, but the pulling the United States out of the Iran deal certainly did not help the cause of North Korea following in the footsteps of Iran. If anything, we're going to see a future world where both countries have nuclear weapons, and we can absolutely thank Donald Trump for that.
Pulling the United States out of the Iran deal gives North Korea two reasons to not make a deal with Donald Trump. It shows North Korea that Donald Trump is not to be trusted, and even if they did make a deal with Trump, why would they trust future administrations would continue a nuclear agreement?
Not only did Trump end Americas agreement with Iran, but it is being reported that the Trump administration is going to give the technologies and assistance to Saudi Arabia help them develop nuclear energy.
For journalist Chris Hedges, this decision is "the most dangerous foreign policy decision of the Trump administration."
Chris Hedges explains:
I spent seven years in the Middle East. I covered the despotic, repressive kingdom as the Middle East bureau chief for The New York Times. And I, along with most Arabists in the United States, have little doubt that giving a nuclear capability to Saudi Arabia under the leadership of the ruthless and amoral Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman would see it embark on a nuclear weapons program and eventually share weaponized technology with Saudi allies and proxies that include an array of radical jihadists and mortal enemies of America. A nuclearized Saudi Arabia is a grave existential threat to the Middle East and ultimately the United States.
We can thank "the half-wit-son-in-law of the president, Jared Kushner," for such a criminally insane decision to help a despotic regime get the capabilities to develop a nuclear bomb.
Speaking of "the half-wit," it turns out that it wasn't just incompetents like Jared Kushner and Ivanka Trump to gain security clearances despite recommendations to grant them these credentials. In fact, 25 people were granted security clearances who had no reason having them.
This shockingly and terrifying news not only highlights the incompetence and danger of Donald Trump. It shows how insane the entire apparatus of the GOP is.
To not care that Donald Trump is making the world a more dangerous place, and that he's giving security clearances to people who have no reason, whatsoever, is more than telling of its corruption. It shows how nihilistic the GOP has become, but maybe that is something we should be expecting at this point.
The Christian Right takes over the GOP by the day, and I don't expect them to take any actions to save humanity from annihilating itself.
In fact, they are going to try and do nothing else other than trying to make it a guarantee that humans destroy itself.
