When it comes to the border, Donald Trump has spent two years wasting our time, and as we have noted at Honest Nonsense, he keeps undermining his own position that we need a border wall.
"Mexico is doing NOTHING to stop the Caravan which is now fully formed and heading to the United States," Trump has recently tweeted. "We stopped the last two - many are still in Mexico but can't get through our Wall, but it takes a lot of Border Agents if there is no Wall. Not easy!"
This wasn't the only tweet where Trump has undermined his own position.
Nevertheless, Trump is still using white nationalist fear tactics, and that democracy is his way or the highway:
The reality is, Donald Trump is the crisis.
"An Amnesty International team in Mexico planning to check on the welfare of Central American migrants staying at the El Barretal shelter near Tijuana on Tuesday got an unexpected call as it was en route," reports ThinkProgress. "Amnesty International USA’s executive director Margaret Huang told ThinkProgress that people at the shelter told her that they had only been notified at 10 p.m. on Monday night that the shelter was closing the next day."
“We spoke to some people outside of the shelter, who had been ordered to leave but had no place to go and no way of getting there, ” Margaret Huang told ThinkProgress. “They were devastated and they were just wandering around outside. But they were also reluctant to speak with us because there were lots and lots of police out there. They didn’t want to speak to us in front of Mexican authorities out of fear of retribution."
“If people were allowed to go to the border, and place their asylum claims, and have their claims heard, as is their right, under both U.S. law and international law, we would not have the level of crisis that we’re seeing in Tijuana and in other parts of the border,” Huang told ThinkProgress before going back to Mexico from El Paso, Texas.
While Trump talks about the threats of caravan's, ThinkProgress points out that people coming from countries like Honduras come in these large numbers for safety reasons.
These people are oppressed, scared, and live inn danger, but Trump and his supporters try to make them these violent criminals. It's repugnant, embarrassing, and terrifying that millions of American's buy into this shit.
Unfortunately, Donald Trump has a worldview that does not reside in reality, thus, his policy decisions are not in reality, and this is confirmed by U.S. Defense Secretary Patrick Shanahan declaring that the Pentagon will send "several thousand" more troops to the border.
What's even more infuriating by this decision is that even the Pentagon knows that there isn't a crisis at the border.
"Having agreed to send thousands more troops to the border to help with surveillance," writes ThinkProgress, "the Pentagon on Tuesday told Congress that building a wall at the U.S. border with Mexico is, in fact, not a national emergency."
Fucking unbelievable, and what makes this farce evermore infuriating is the fact that the President is an incompetent negotiator whose only tactics is shutting the government because he doesn't care for democracy, nor does he really care to work, as pointed out by The Young Turk's Michael Shure:
