Trump's decision to have the United States pull out of the 1987 Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces (INF) Treaty, has the Kremlin saying that this could cause a new arms race, and has a former world leader call the decision as "not the work of a great mind" and "very strange."
The response by the Kremlin via The New Republic:
“This is a question of strategic security. Such measures can make the world more dangerous,” Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters on Monday. “It means that the United States is not disguising, but is openly starting to develop these systems in the future, and if these systems are being developed, then actions are necessary from other countries, in this case Russia, to restore balance in this sphere.”
Although Donald Trump says the reason for getting out of the agreement is based on the idea that Russia is violating the treaty, which they are, according to Fred Kaplan of Slate.
However, Kaplan says that is exactly what Putin wanted writing that Trump's decision:
...is a silly move, rewarding the Russians for their violations rather than punishing them—and handing them a propaganda victory, as Vladimir Putin will no doubt blame the U.S. for killing the treaty—while doing nothing for the security of the U.S. or its allies.
Kaplan also writes:
...withdrawing would give the Russians exactly what they want. When George W. Bush was president, Russian Defense Minister Sergei Ivanov implored Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld several times to make a deal allowing both sides to get out of this treaty, which Russian officers had never liked. Rumsfeld ignored the request, knowing that there was no appetite in the U.S. or NATO for bringing back the ground-launched cruise missile or the Pershing II. In other words, a joint pullout would help only the Russians—and do nothing for the U.S. or the West. Trump is now about to commit the mistake that Rumsfeld avoided.
In other words, if one wanted to put your conspiracy theory cap on, one could wonder if this is Donald Trump doing Putin's bidding.
But as The New Republic points out, Trump's decision is what his National Security Advisor John Bolton wanted. A man "who opposes arms control on principle." The move also goes along with Trump's own disregard with international agreements and cooperation. Getting us out of the Paris climate accord, and the Iran nuclear deal being the best examples of this.
After all, tonight at yet another rally, Donald Trump said he was a "nationalist," and that "globalists" want the rest of the world to be better off than America. For Trump and his supporters, a world in which their are less nuclear weapons than more, is better for everyone.
Whatever the reasons for Trump's decision to get us out of the INF treaty, one reason we know for sure is that Trump is fucking stupid. The former Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev, who had signed the INF treaty in 1987, said Trump's decision was "not the work of a great mind," and "very strange." This, coming from the man who signed the original treaty with Ronald Reagan.
The decision truly was "not the work of a great mind."
Reason 1: This will only cause nuclear proliferation in a time that we need to desperately denuclearize.
Reason 2: Gives Putin what he wants.
Reason 3: If Trump wanted North Korea to denuclearize, kiss that shit goodbye, for this only emboldens them, and also persuades them to not trust the United States even more so.
Reason 4: I guess Trump and the right are done thinking about the Nobel Peace Prize?
The last one is really not an important reason. It's just a reminder of how stupid and pathetic Donald Trump and his supporters are. That one could believe a PR stunt deserved the Nobel Peace Prize, and how pathetic to think that's all the work that is required to receive the award.
That's like going to the bank and saying, "give me a million dollars." And when the bank asks "why?" You reply, "because I made it here."
For those with a spec of intelligence, what the nuclear age makes you realize is that it is impossible to be a "nationalist" notwithstanding it's horrific history of the Nazi regime. The nuclear age means you have to think about the relations and tensions between Pakistan and India. Iran and Israel. NATO and Russia. North Korea and more.
To only think about one's own nation can have ramifications that extends far beyond your own borders. One would have thought that the Cuban Missile Crisis would have put that line of thinking to bed, but as former Secretary of State Rex Tillerson said, Trump is "a fucking moron."
No climate deals, no nuclear proliferation deals, what harm could come from that? Other than, we've fucked current and future generations of human and life that is so amazing it's disturbing that humans can so easily take it all for granted.
I don't anticipate Trump or his supporters being able to understand or articulate the implications of his decisions, while the rest of us shit our pants at how stupid and destructive this "empty vessel" truly is... They think America is winning, and that "we are great again."
At the end of the day, when cockroaches is our best source of protein, go ahead and be winning. I, on the other hand, will be dead....
