I am not here to tell you to for, or against Israel. My only point when discussing the Israeli-Palestinian conflict is to remind people that what our media, culture, and politics don't tell us the whole story.
When Palestinians fought back through violence it gave Israel and its supporters the cover that they needed, and it is why you have seen an hyper-reactionary response to the BDS moment (Boycott-Divest-Sanctions).
The BDS movement in nature is to do the same thing that was done with Apartheid South Africa to end its oppression against the Black African population.
As the BDS movement has gained popularity and solidarity, states across the United States have passed laws that force its citizens to sign a "Pro-Israel Oath."
Texas is one of such state that is forcing a "Pro-Israel Oath":
This headline makes it plain and simple to understand the ramifications if one is not to sign the oath:
"The language of the affirmation Amawi (the elementary school speech pathologist) was told she must sign reads like Orwellian — or McCarthyite — self-parody, the classic political loyalty oath that every American should instinctively shudder upon reading," writes Glenn Greenwald.
And Greenwald is right, since when is an American forced to sign a loyalty oath?
It's bad enough that state like Texas would pass such laws while claiming to be a state that loves its freedom, but Greenwald makes it clear how absurd this law is when you consider that Texas is forcing its citizens by law, to be more loyal to Israel than America itself.
"This required certification about Israel was the only one in the contract sent to Amawi that pertained to political opinions and activism," writes Greenwald.
"There were no similar clauses relating to children (such as a vow not to advocate for pedophiles or child abusers), nor were there any required political oaths that pertained to the country of which she is a citizen and where she lives and works: the United States."
The main point of this Israel-Palestine update is a simple tweet:
The tweet on the left says that "Christians are to worship in peace!"
While the one on the right shows that is not the case if you are a Palestinian Christian living in Gaza
The reality of the situation is different from the propaganda, and it's why nonviolent protesting, such as the BDS Movement, frightens Israeli, and its most arch-supporters.
My main point in all of this is to remind you that this subject is far more complicated than you've likely been told by the media you listen to, or the politicians you support.
