As Andrew Lawrence of Media Matters has noted, Laura Ingram is discussing some serious shit on her news program.
After declaring that Chuck Schumer and Nancy Pelosi are being "opportunists" about the government shutdown, she discussed "toxic masculinity":
Of course, it can never be a true show hosted by Laura Ingram if their isn't a story about a "homophobic baker":
Now it's easy mock Laura Ingram, and for good reason. But Media Matters points out, main stream media (including myself) got played. I was worried that Donald Trump was going to announce a state of emergency, and start a coup.
That might be a little too dramatic than what I was saying, but what I was trying to say is that with Donald Trump openly discussing the possibility of a state of emergency is worth taking seriously, due to the authoritarian things he has said in the past.
I was clearly wrong, and glad that I was. His address was lame, and that is a good thing. Certainly better than him declaring that he's going to grant himself sweeping powers.
Having said that, the address was just Trump repeating the same bullshit lies that included the dumb analogy that because people have fences that means we should have a border wall.
The address offered nothing new, but Media Matters contends that the media was "played" by Trump. Arguing that the media outlets who showed his address were "participating in a White House disinformation campaign."
"In a humiliating turn for the networks," writes Media Matters. "The president broke no news, instead using the opportunity to reiterate the same immigration talking points he’s been pushing for years."
Instead of the networks scrutinizing Trump's speech in real time. Media Matters argues that "the networks allowed the president the opportunity to speak to the public unimpeded, leaving their journalists to address his falsehoods either afterward or on other platforms."
It's one thing if Trump fans are suckers, but it's worse that the media was played as suckers.
Especially since as Andrew Lawrence points out, Trump had sent out two fundraising emails today that was "asking for money based on his 'speech.'"
The media and Trump's sycophants thought he was going to do something that a president would do, or a even what a tyrant would do. Instead, it was just the way Donald Trump would do it; like a con man.
