I don't have time for anything Donald Trump has to say, especially when it comes to bipartisanship, and while appearing on CBS, Vice President Mike Pence did nothing but only reaffirm my position (as if I even needed that).
While appearing on CBS This Morning, Pence essentially told host Jeff Glor that if Democrats didn't bow to the King, Trump may shut the government down again.
"Can you guarantee there won't be another government shutdown?" Glor asked Pence.
"Well, I think our hope is that there's not but I can't make that guarantee, Jeff," said Pence. "The simple truth is Congress needs to do their job."
Once again, both the President and Vice President's idea of a democracy is doing something that they want done and not what the people want.
As noted by ThinkProgress:
Multiple polls show that the American public opposes Trump’s proposal for a border wall — a recent Gallup poll, for example, found that 60 percent of Americans oppose the wall. Similarly, polls showed that the lion’s share of Americans blamed Trump for the shutdown, which he himself said he would be “proud” to do. Trump’s disapproval ratings also spiked after he shut down the government.
Not only did Pence say that Trump may shut the government down again despite the fact that it hurt Trump in the polls. Pence made it clear that he didn't care that the last one hurt American workers and families when Glor asked Pence if shutting down the government was a mistake.
"I never think it's a mistake," said Pence, "to stand up for what you believe in and I think what the American people admire most about this president is he says what he means and he means what he says in a very real sense."
Congressman Ted Lieu in a more polite fashion, essentially told Pence to stick it:
When Mike Pence says that Trump, "says what he means and he means what he says in a very real sense," unfortunately for Pence, what Trump says isn't based on reality.
Before Donald Trump gave his State of the Union address, the Governor of New Mexico ordered the National Guard to withdraw from the border.
“New Mexico will not take part in the president’s charade of border fear-mongering by misusing our diligent National Guard troops,” Grisham said in a statement.
Adding: “I recognize and appreciate the legitimate concerns of residents and officials in southwestern New Mexico, particularly Hidalgo County, who have asked for our assistance, as migrants and asylum-seekers continue to appear at their doorstep."
It was in New Mexico where two Guatemalan children died while in the custody of the United State government, as noted by ThinkProgress:
Guatemalan immigrant children Felipe Gomez Alonzo and Jakelin Caal Maquin died in U.S. custody in New Mexico. During Trump’s address on Tuesday, Reps. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY), Ilhan Omar (D-MN), Ayanna Pressley (D-MA), and Rashida Tlaib (D-MI) wore pins with a photo of Caal, who was only 7 years old when she died.
I interpret Mike Pence's word as: the first two years of the Trump presidency has been one of corruption, chaos and disaster. Why do you think that the other two would be any different?
