It was originally planned that Donald Trump would give his State of the Union address on January 29th, but Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi wrote Trump a letter asking the President to postpone his speech until the government is reopened.
She brought up security concerns due to the government shutdown in her letter, citing the Secretary of Homeland Security, Kirstjen Nielsen.
"In September 2018, Secretary Nielsen designated State of the Union addresses as National Special Security Events (NSSEs), recognizing the need for the 'full resources of the Federal Government to be brought to bear' to ensure the security of these events," wrote Pelosi.
Pelosi did give Trump the ability to give his speech to Congress in writing.
"Sadly," continued Pelosi after noting that Homeland Security has not been funded for 26 days, "given the security concerns and unless government re-opens this week, I suggest that we work together to determine another suitable date after government has re-opened for this address or for you to consider delivering your State of the Union address in writing to Congress on January 29th."
As Speaker of the House, Pelosi has the right to rescind the invitation to Trump to give his speech.
The real intent of Pelosi's letter was to let Donald Trump that she knows what she's fucking doing.
Incidentally, and predictably, Trump was planning on using his State of the Union address to engage in his typical partisan fashion, and continue his campaign to divide America more than it already is.
Furthermore, it was also reported that slithering-monster Stephen Miller who was writing Trump's speech:
