I've recently started reading Bob Woodward's book Fear, and chapter 16 discussed Trump getting America out of the nuclear arms deal. Trump called it "One of the worst deals I've ever seen," and when he was a candidate, he said, "My number one priority is to dismantle the disastrous deal with Iran."
The Iran nuclear deal was one of the main reasons that Rex Tillerson's time as Secretary of State was not meant to last. Tillerson, although a man who has done his part to destroy the environment, was still able to see the absurdity of having the United States leave the Paris Climate Accord, and the Iran nuclear deal. But, Trump is Trump, so whatever is the right thing to do, he'll make sure to do the wrong thing.
That is why in a meeting before a July deadline to resign into the nuclear deal with Iran, Donald Trump said that Iran was violating the agreement, and told Tillerson, "you need to figure out how the argument is going to be made to declare that." Trump knew that he didn't have a good reason to get out of the deal, that he wanted Tillerson to come up with the excuse himself.
That's the madness of Trump. He knows that the Iranians are not violating the agreement, a deal that could help deescalate nuclear proliferation in the Middle East, but Trump could give two shits.
When Tillerson went to see Trump in the Oval Office, Tillerson told Trump that Iran was not violating the agreement. "They are in violation," replied Trump. Adding, "and you should make the case that this agreement is done and finished."
Great....
The reason Trump has gotten the United States out of the Paris and Iran agreements, is for one reason: Obama.
This dynamic noted by Vice (emphasis mine):
“He's an insecure racist who hates Barack Obama. It's not more complicated than that,” Jeffrey Lewis, founder of Arms Control Wonk and the Director of the East Asia Nonproliferation Program at the Middlebury Institute of International Studies, told me over the phone. “If George Bush had negotiated this deal, we'd still be in this agreement. I don’t think there’s any reason to normalize this decision or pretend its based in substance because it is not.”
What has come from getting out of the deal? Are we close to another deal being made? Nope, in fact, we're closer to a war with Iran than we are making a different nuclear deal. Not to mention, he thinks shaking hands with Kim Jong Un is the same thing as making a nuclear arms deal.
What are the economic deals that Trump has made? The one's with Mexico and Canada? The one being called NAFTA 2.0, because there isn't a fucking difference between the two.
Hell, Trump's tariff crusade is so bad that he's even got the United Steelworkers pissed off:
Trump's tariff crusade is causing Japan and China to make economic deals, despite tensions in recent history, furthermore, his tariff crusade is causing the United States to borrow money from the Chinese to give to farmers, so that they won't sell produce to the Chinese.
What a deal maker!
