The United States Joins Hungary In Saying "Fuck You" To Refugees

Screenshot: Democracy Now!

Democracy Now! reported that Hungary was the only other country than the United States to vote against "protecting the rights of refugees around the world."

Democracy Now! (emphasis mine):

The vote on the Global Compact on Refugees was 181 to 2, with only the far-right government of Hungary joining the Trump administration in rejecting the refugee pact. Among other things, the compact seeks to find alternatives to jailing asylum seekers, especially children. The Trump administration is currently detaining about 15,000 immigrant children in government custody.

These are headlines of what the far-right government lead by Prime Minister Victor Orban looks like:

As noted by RightWingWatch, "In April, a group of academics, writers and activists signed an open letter to German Chancellor Angela Merkel calling for stronger action against Orbán."

What RightWingWatch quoted from the letter (emphasis mine):

Since he was elected prime minister in 2010, Viktor Orbán has turned public broadcasting stations into propaganda outlets, forced the sale of private stations into the hands of his political allies and taken effective control over the most important courts in the land.

He has also massively impeded the work of the country’s NGOs and independent academic institutions, stuffed the country’s electoral commission with his own cronies and rewritten electoral rules to favor his political party, Fidesz. As a result, leading experts believe that the recent elections in Hungary were less than free and hardly fair.

Meanwhile, the Hungarian government has, over the past months, repeatedly fanned the flames of anti-Semitism. Orbán has used public funds for a mass propaganda campaign that suggested that a Jewish banker is the puppetmaster behind an international conspiracy to destroy Hungary’s Christian culture.

As the headline above has stated, Hungarians are protesting what they are calling a "slave law," regarding state-run television and radio per Democracy Now!:

Monday’s protests targeted state-run TV and radio stations over their one-sided support for Prime Minister Orbán. Guards ejected two independent lawmakers from Hungary’s state television building after they demanded the broadcaster read out a petition from the protesters.

It makes sense that Hungary and the United States would be aligned at the moment.

They are both run by dictatorial-minded, xenophobic monsters....
