Brazil has elected a monster, Jair Bolsonaro. Electing a monster was only possible through corruption, and according to The Intercept, has filled his cabinet with corruption.
"Examining Bolsonaro’s top deputies and cabinet appointments, it becomes apparent that his speeches against corruption are nothing but empty words," writes The Intercept.
"From the allies arrayed alongside Bolsonaro during his first speech as president-elect to the transition team he assembled and the governmental department heads he’s appointed, Bolsonaro picked at least seven people tangled up in scandals, from lawsuits and official investigations to criminal convictions and even confession of guilt."
Alongside his corruption is his repugnant views of the world, and Honest Nonsense covered some of them.
Here are a few things that Bolsonaro has said:
- “I am in favor of a dictatorship, a regime of exception.”
- Interviewer: If you were the president of the Republic today, would you close the National Congress?
Bolsonaro's response: “There’s no doubt about it. I’d do a coup on the same day! It [the Congress] doesn’t work! And I’m sure at least 90 percent of the population would throw a party, would applaud, because it does not work. Congress today is good for nothing, brother, it just votes for what the president wants. If he is the person who decides, who rules, who trumps the Congress, then let’s have a coup quickly, go straight to a dictatorship.”
- To a women congressman: “I’m a rapist now. I would never rape you, because you do not deserve it … slut!”
- “I would be incapable of loving a homosexual child. I’m not going to act like a hypocrite here: I’d rather have my son die in an accident than show up with some mustachioed guy. For me, he would have died. … “If your son starts acting a little gay, hit him with some leather, and he’ll change his behavior.”
- “The big problem in Brazil is that the government is at the jugular of businessmen. … The worker will have to decide: less rights and employment or all the rights and unemployment.”
- “I’ll give carte blanche for the police to kill.”
The repugnant political and social views coinciding with the corruption when campaigning to deal with corruption, it makes sense as to why people would call Bolsonaro "the Trump of the tropics."
It also makes sense that Donald Trump would like him.
It's not shocking that Donald Trump would support an overtly disgusting human being, for Jair Bolsonaro is the man Donald Trump longs to be.
It's another reminder that Trump, and his supporters are fucking assholes....
