According to BuzzFeed, the Trump administration is secretly combatting “public support for marijuana and cast state legalization measures in a negative light, while attempting to portray the drug as a national threat.”
Trump doesn’t want to just be an asshole, but also a fucking loser. The group of federal agencies, which includes the DEA, to fight this tax-wasting policy will apparently be called the Marijuana Policy Coordination Committee.
BuzzFeed reports that the summary of a meeting between the White House and nine departments concluded that “The prevailing marijuana narrative in the U.S. is partial, one-sided, and inaccurate.” Staff inside the administration think it's “urgent” to let Americans know the evils of marijuana use, as its use is going to only increase.
Trump’s administration isn’t bad, because it’s conservative. It’s bad, because it’s actually not being conservative. Ending the war on drugs would be basic, common sense conservatism. When something has multiple decades of proof that it’s not working, why continue it? Trump’s administration wants to ride a dead horse into battle.
Since the war on drugs was started by Richard Nixon in the 1970’s, America has spent a $1 Trillion dollars. $36 billion in 2015.
According to the CDC, 63,632 died from drug overdose in 2016. Zero people died from marijuana in 2016. Zero people have died from marijuana in the history of forever.
From 2006 to 2010, approximately 88,000 people died from the consumption of alcohol.
I’d be more accepting if his administration was going after alcohol, but we already did that. It was a fucking disaster. The war on drugs is a disaster, and Trump consistently wants history to remember him as a douchebag.
