Trump Will Use Workers as Croquet Mallets on Labor Day

Updated: Sep 3, 2018

When it comes to immigration, professional athletes protesting, Charlottesville, Puerto Rico, veterans being protected, and the environment. Donald Trump has consistently picked being the asshole. As Labor Day passes by, why not talk how Donald Trump has been an asshole to labor? Largely every president since Franklin Roosevelt have been for the capitalist’s, and against labor. It’s not that Donald Trump should be considered uniquely against anti-labor, but he is against labor.

Before being elected, Trump promised that if he was president, “the American worker will finally have a president who will protect them and fight for them.”

As president, he’s doing the opposite.

His administration has “ weakened several standards that help the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OHSA) protect workers,” writes the non-profit organization Public Citizen. His administration is also getting rid of “commonsense measures.”

The administration will not enact “a long-awaited rule to protect workers from beryllium, a cancer-causing toxic metal.”

Trump’s administration is saying that employers don’t have to comply with safety requirements, and wants whoever becomes the next leader of the OSHA to do the opposite of what OSHA was designed for.

According to Public Citizen, Trump’s administration is working “to undo a requirement that employers comply with safety requirements as a condition for receiving federal contracts.”

Public Citizen has noted that Kavanaughs’ decision’s have been overwhelmingly against “consumers, workers, environmental protections and victims of human rights abuses.”

Kavanhuaghs' record noted by Public Citizen:

In 18 of 22 cases involving consumer and regulatory issues or matters of administrative law, Kavanaugh sided with corporations against agencies, or with agencies against public-interest challengers.

In 11 of 13 environmental cases, Kavanaugh sided with corporations or states challenging the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency or other federal agencies for being too protective of the environment, or against environmental groups seeking stronger environmental enforcement.

In 15 of 17 cases involving worker rights, Kavanaugh sided with employers against employees or employees’ unions, or with employers against the National Labor Relations Board.

In seven of seven cases involving victims suing for compensation over police or human rights abuses, Kavanaugh sided with the alleged abuser and against the victims.

In two oftwo cases, Kavanaugh sided with merging companies and against antitrust enforcement agencies.

We shouldn’t be shocked. After all, Trump had undocumented-Polish workers demolish his Trump Tower. The Republican Party continues to destroy worker rights and consumer protection, and the Democratic Party lets them.
