We're Seriously Sending Troops To The Fucking Border

Donald Trump can't campaign on tax reform, for it was just tax cuts for the rich.

Donald Trump can't campaign on healthcare, for Republicans want to gut medicaid, and medicare.

Donald Trump can't campaign on helping the working class, because Republicans want to gut social security.

So Donald Trump is campaigning on racism and fear:

Despite what the Secretary of Homeland Security has said in the past:

Speaking of the Homeland Security Secretary, here was an interaction between her and Fox News' Martha MacCallum:

Here is the transcript on the possibility of those in the caravan being shot at:

MacCallum: Is there any scenario under which, if people forced their way across the border they could be shot at?”

Nielsen: We do not have any intention right now to shoot at people, they will be apprehended however. But I also take my officer and agent—their own personal safety extraordinarily seriously. They do have the ability of course to defend themselves.

MacCallum: So if shot at, they would shoot back?

Nielsen: No. I think we’d have to work through that. But I want to make it very clear, we will absolutely not tolerate violence against border patrol in this situation. These are dedicated men and women risking their lives every day. I will not tolerate Mexicans, or anybody else, acting in a violent way towards our men and women on the border.

It's fucking madness that this is actually happening. That we're sending troops to the border to deal with people carrying sleeping bags and backpacks.

Someone on Twitter pointed out the absurdity of this:

It is not just you.

Not only is it absurd that we are sending troops to the border, but White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders was reported as not ruling out Habeas Corpus being taken away to stop the "invasion" by the caravan.

This rhetoric by Trump, his Press Secretary, and his supporters was taken seriously by the Pittsburg synagogue gunman argues Adam Serwer:

Over the next few weeks, Trump did his best to turn the caravan into a national emergency. Trump falsely told his supporters that there were “criminals and unknown Middle Easterners” in the caravan, a claim that had no basis in fact and that was meant to imply that terrorists were hiding in the caravan—one falsehood placed on another.

Adam also writes about how people have promoted the idea that George Soros was helping the migrant caravan:

In the right-wing fever swamps, where the president’s every word is worshipped, commenters began amplifying Trump’s exhortations with new details. Representative Matt Gaetz of Florida wondered whether George Soros—the wealthy Jewish philanthropist whom Trump and several members of the U.S. Senate blamed for the protests against Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh, and who was recently targeted with a bomb—was behind the migrant caravan.

As pointed out by CNN, Trump's nemesis. The shooter posted “I have noticed a change in people saying 'illegals' that now say 'invaders',” six days before the shooting. “I like this.”

What fucked up times we find ourselves in....
