When Talking About Identity Politics Is A Good Thing

I won't deny that identity politics can be mentioned too often, or that there will be times that it is improperly applied, and that the left may use it too much.

The reality is though, the right too has an issue with identity politics, and one of them is their false view that the media is biased against them.

As this graph by Media Matters shows, the media spent way more time on freshman Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib cursing saying that we were going to "impeach the motherfucker," referring to Donald Trump, compared to Congressman Steve King's white supremacy comments:

Although I'm not a Pod Save America fan, former Senior Advisor to President Obama Dan Pfeiffer makes a good point that the media continues to buy into the right's propaganda message that they are unfairly treated in the mainstream media.

And the absurdity a curse word about a constitutional process is as bad as the promotion of white nationalism:

It's also not a surprise that the media, especially Fox, that an opinionated woman of color is going to get more negative coverage than a racist white man.

MSNBC and CNN should be ashamed of the disparity of coverage between the two comments, but spending only 43 seconds on Steve King's comments couldn't be more transparent about Fox's position on white nationalism.

I don't like using identity politics, but this is a perfect reminder to people that race and gender are still an issue. Things are certainly improving, that Rashida Tlaib is a freshman Congresswoman is proof of this, but nevertheless, we still have a ways to go...
