When one gets up on the morning of Labor Day, there are a bunch of thoughts one will have about that day. Growing up school started the day after Labor Day, so it was always an ominous day. The programming to be a good-little-capitalist boy would commence once again. A worker may like it simply because it gives them a day off, but does go any further in thought about the day. A historian or an activist may think about this day for many of reasons.
Whether it’s remembering the blood that labor spilt, to the position labor finds itself today.
On Labor Day, Trump decided to send a tweet to cyber bully the president of one of the largest labor unions in the country:
Richard Trumka, the head of the AFL-CIO, represented his union poorly on television this weekend. Some of the things he said were so against the working men and women of our country, and the success of the U.S. itself, that it is easy to see why unions are doing so poorly. A Dem!
His tweet comes after a federal district judge recently struck down executive orders by Donald Trump, that would have made it easier to fire federal workers.
This tweet comes just days after it was announced that Trump said that federal employees will not be receiving a pay raise in 2019.
Richard Trumka was on Fox News Sunday with host Chris Wallace. They were discussing what a trade deal that excludes Canada. “It’s pretty hard to see how that would work without having Canada in the deal,” Trumka told Wallace.
A day earlier, Trump tweeted:
There is no political necessity to keep Canada in the new NAFTA deal. If we don’t make a fair deal for the U.S. after decades of abuse, Canada will be out. Congress should not interfere w/ these negotiations or I will simply terminate NAFTA entirely & we will be far better off...
Mao can be a conservative too…
“We’ve been aggressively pursuing an agreement that works for the workers in all three countries,” added Trumka, which makes sense that he would say that. The AFL-CIO is a global union and federation. Because our president doesn’t read, and watches news that speak well of him. He was watching Trumka talking to Wallace, and went to Twitter to cry about it.
After attacking Trumka on Twitter, he tweeted, “The Worker in America is doing better than ever before.” That’s what those who just got recently fired at AT&T were thinking. It’s obvious to point out that his tweet is bullshit, but his policies are just what the Republican Party wants.
It’s why Trump wants a Judge on to the Supreme Court who has decided in favor of employer’s over employee’s in 15 of 17 cases. Trump wants the Supreme Court Judge that Mitch McConnell wants.
“Trump has betrayed America’s workforce, sacrificing lives at the altar of industry profits,” says Shanna Divine of Public Citizen, who authored a report about Trump’s administrations relationship with American workers. His administration won’t even implement a regulation that would protect workers from beryllium, a chemical element that can cause cancer.
Trump thinks we all of have as bad of a memory as he. His cynicism of people allows him to believe that he’s the greatest human in history, and that we are all servant’s to his whims.
On Labor Day, Trump lied about the situation for workers, and is actively harming labor. Not to mention, he once said that minimum wage workers were making too much.
